The basketball royalty was present in the style of the inaugural Junior NBA Tournament in Abu Dhabi last weekend.

Four-time NBA champion Tony Parker added excitement to the opening day at the American Community School in Abu Dhabi as the landmark, three-month-long competition continues.

The iconic former San Antonio Spurs Point Guard hosted a special one-on-one challenge and question-and-answer session for the teams present, from which eight boys played games and four girls played, all of them 14-year-olds or younger. Winners – covering 72 games, including play-offs – will have the opportunity to watch the October Ground Breaking Live NBA pre-season matches in the UAE capital. Scouts will also choose a boy and a girl for a lifetime of basketball training experience at the NBA summer camp in Europe.

More than 450 players have registered for the 30-team event, which is divided into 20 boys ‘teams and 10 girls’ teams, ending with the Junior NBA Finals on May 21. Branded playing kits were provided by the NBA for six divisions, five teams in each.
